Code of Conduct for Personal Injury Handling (GBL)

The Code of Conduct for Personal Injury Handling (GBL) is a set of conduct rules promoting a swift, respectful and transparent handling of personal-injury claims.

The Code of Conduct for Personal Injury Handling (GBL) contains agreements on how insurers, claimants' representatives and other parties should handle a personal-injury case. The code was drawn up by De Letselschade Raad and is widely endorsed in the sector.

Key points include:

The GBL is not a law but a form of self-regulation. Failure to comply can nevertheless weigh in a disciplinary complaint or in proceedings. In addition, the Personal Injury Guidelines provide concrete amounts for, for example, household help and mileage.

Under the GBL, the insurer should have taken a position on liability within three months.
